FROM THE M50 – Dublin West/North or from Wicklow.

The M50 exit to use is JUNCTION 16 – CHERRYWOOD /LOUGHLINSTOWN. When you leave the M50 at this junction you will be on a road facing towards the sea and heading on the R118 to Dun Laoghaire/Ferry Port. Stay in the centre lane at the first traffic lights and continue through all the junctions (about 2km) until you come to the roundabout at the Graduate Pub. Dalkey is the last exit off this roundabout and is well signposted. You will now be on Avondale Road, a long wide road with gentle ramps. At the end of this road you’ll be at the Killiney Towers roundabout. Take the third exit onto Barnhill Road – it’s signposted for Dalkey and you’ll see the ‘Welcome to Dalkey’ sign on this road. There is a new roundabout outside Barnhill Stores/Centra.Take the second exit here – the road all of the way into Dalkey and follow the local directions ‘From the Squareabout’ below…

FROM THE EAST Link Bridge.

Head south along the coast towards Blackrock (keep the sea on your left as you drive). Go straight past the two shopping centres (stay on the bypass road) and past Maxwell Motors on your left. Keep going straight through the next set of traffic lights – you’ll come immediately to another lights at the top of a slight hill. Stay right of the fork in the road at these lights. Stay on this road for about 1km. Now you’ll be heading towards Deansgrange (you’ll pass the very large cemetery on your right). At the next lights turn left on to Kill Lane. Continue on the road and at the next lights you’ll pass Baker’s Corner Pub. Keep going straight along this road until you come to a roundabout. Take the last exit from this roundabout onto the Upper Glenageary Road. Follow this wide road up a hill to a large and busy roundabout (there’s a small Spar shopping centre opposite). You’ll take the second exit here and still be on the Upper Glenageary Road (it’s a long and very wide road with cycle routes on either side). At the end of this road you’ll be at the Killiney Towers roundabout. Take the second exit onto Barnhill Road – it’s signposted for Dalkey and you’ll see the ‘Welcome to Dalkey’ sign on this road. There is a new mini-roundabout outside Barnhill Stores/Centra. Take the second exit and travel this road all of the way into Dalkey and follow the local directions ‘From the squareabout’ below…

From the ‘Squareabout’….

Whichever road you take into Dalkey, follow all the way round the ‘Squareabout’ – a square roundabout with buildings (Chinese restaurant, boutique and apartments) in the middle of it. You are in the right place when you can see the Post Office on your left and the local Espresso Cafe straight in front of you. Turn left into Castle Street – Dalkey’s ‘main street’ – now you’re passing through one of Dublin’s only Conservation Areas in a Town setting. You’ll pass the Town Hall and the Queen’s Pub on your left and keep going till you see ‘Select Stores’ is straight in front of you.

AVOIDING TRAFFIC DELAYS

The Rock Road has been reduced to one lane in each direction due to the creation of bus lanes. We recommend clients head up to the N11 and drive out to the Loughlinstown exit. Then follow the directions below for clients exiting the M50 at this junction.

Most people heading to Dalkey from the north or west of the city tend to travel via Dun Laoghaire. Our directions help you avoid Dun Laoghaire as the main road has been made one way in some places and when a ferry docks the extra traffic can cause long delays.
