Gorgeous Healthy Skin – The Importance of Omega-3

Nothing conveys good health and vigor quite like a glowing complexion. Beautiful skin is often thought to be a consequence of great genes or fancy moisturizers, but the only way to achieve truly radiant skin is to nourish it from the inside out. Part of nourishing your skin means getting the right amounts of the right fats — no amount of lotion can correct an omega-3 deficiency. Our skin is the barrier between our bodies and the environment. Without sufficient omega-3s, skin becomes permeable, and therefore susceptible to invaders…

Trouble Sleeping?

I’ve tried everything – nothing seems to work!

Sleep is as important to the body as food and water, but most of us do not get enough of it. Insufficient sleep, or disruptions to the sleep-wake cycle, cause fatigue, stress, depression, weight gain and poor concentration.

How does melatonin work?

Melatonin is essential to regulate the body’s circadian rhythms (body clock). It assists in maintaining regular sleep patterns and enables us to wake up feeling refreshed.

Melatonin is a hormone released by our brain in small amounts as we wind down at the end of the…

Irish Parent Magazine April 2012 “Leafy Greens” by Ollie

Leafy Greens

Loaded with vitamin E and folate, leafy greens are vital to overall health particularly brain health. Recent studies show that older adults who regularly eat leafy green vegetables experience slower declines in brain function and perform better on cognitive testes than those who don’t. Since vitamin E (key for protecting the brain from oxidative damage) is better absorbed when combined with fats, try tossing a simple dressing of lemon juice and heart healthy olive oil with a salad of spinach.

Greens vary widely in flavour from sweet to bitter to earthy, and many…

Even though allergic reactions to pollen are the identified cause of hay fever, other factors make one person more likely to sneeze than another. The incidence of hay fever has risen dramatically in cities compared to rural areas, which led to the discovery that pollutants such as exhaust fumes prime the immune system to react. During the summer the air in polluted areas contains more free radicals due to the action of sunlight on oxygen molecules, so city-dwellers breathe in more pollutants. Taking a good all-¬round antioxidant supplement containing vitamins A, C and E, betacarotene, selenium and zinc,…
