Nine Nutritious Tips for a Healthy 2012

1. Concentrate on nutrient dense organic wholefoods

Think vegetables that you can eat lots of without feeling full: leafy greens are number one, and then there’s carrots, radishes, cucumber, tomatoes, capsicums, beans, cabbage… the list goes on and on!

Best of all, the most nutrient dense foods tend to require nothing but a good rinse in preparation.

Choose organic wherever possible- it’s the natural way to ensure maximum nutrition without compromise.

2. Include complex carbohydrates in your breakfast & lunch

Wholegrains, from barley to brown rice and buckwheat, will keep you…

Nutritionist Oliver McCabe of Select Stores Dalkey Article in the New July edition of Irish Parent Magazine on Child Constipation and Constipation during Pregnancy.

Toddler/child constipation.
Like all bodily systems, the digestive system needs a constant supply of nutrients for its growth and repair, Indigestible fibre, while not technically a nutrient, is required in good quantities. It is necessary to help the food move along the length of the gut. The gut moves food along through a series of squeezing movements called peristalsis, but without enough fibre there isn’t enough bulk to squeeze against. Finally, fibre has a…

Anxiety/Nutrition

22 June 2011 @ 9:40 am |

Overcoming or regulating Anxiety with Nutrition:
Anxiety is a tool of the human body that is meant to be a healthy response to stresses in life or even to a dangerous situation. When we are afraid, our metabolism speeds up, our muscles tighten, and our adrenal glands produce extra quantities of adrenaline, a hormone that makes our hearts beat faster.
An anxiety-healing diet starts with a good base of nutrients. Plan well rounded meals of basic, clean foods. To keep your blood sugar levels stable, eat smaller meals throughout the day, rather than 3 large ones.

VARICOSE VEINS

Veins carry blood returning to the heart. A varicose vein is one that has become enlarged and swollen; the condition usually occurs in the legs, where circulation is most difficult. It is unlikely that optimum nutrition can do much for veins that are already varicose; however, adequate vitamins C and E as well as other antioxidants can help to prevent further occurrences. Also, there is some evidence that a high-fibre diet can help to prevent varicose veins.

Diet advice
Regular exercise, especially swimming, will improve the circulation. Putting your feet up and gentle leg massages are…

HAIR PROBLEMS

There are many different kinds of hair problems, from dry or oily hair to premature hair loss, but most are linked to what you eat. Oily hair can occur with vitamin B deficiency. Dry or brittle hair is often a sign of essential fat deficiency. Poor hair growth, or loss of colour, is a sign of zinc deficiency. Hair loss is connected with general nutritional deficiency, especially a lack of iron, vitamin B1, vitamin C or lysine (an amino acid). Some hair supple¬ments contain all these. Massaging the scalp also helps, as does hanging upside down, including…
