Eat well to boost your immunity!

With the cold and flu season in full throttle, choosing the right foods and nutrients will help your body and immune system fight off those germs!

Probiotics: Regularly including foods rich in lactic acid bacteria in your diet, such as miso, kefir, tempeh, fermented yoghurt and yoghurt with added probiotics, helps keep your intestinal flora healthy.

Green tea: Cathechins, epicathecins and theaflavins are polyphenols found in tea. These powerful antioxidants are believed not only to prevent cancer, but to help keep the immune system healthy. Drinking tea may help reduce cold symptoms.

A WEEK OF DETOX

1 January 2012 @ 5:22 pm |

A WEEK OF DETOX STARTS TOMORROW, LETS DO IT TOGETHER,

Detox Do’s and Don’ts

For an instant upgrade in how you feel and look, there are four habits to break and four habits to make. So, let’s start with the hard part.

To give your system a break, you need to avoid:

1. Wheat. All wheat contains gluten and this irritates the gut. So, give your insides a week’s break.

2. Milk. It’s the most common food allergen and most people produce antibodies to it. In other words, it causes your immune system to react. It’s…

Blazing Salads Spelt Bread €3.99, delivered Mondays,Wednesdays and Fridays

Spelt is an ancient cousin of modern wheat, and has many advantages over its more in-bred relative. It is a much hardier grain, and grows well without artificial fertilisers making it a popular choice for organic farmers. Unlike modern wheat it has not been selectively bred just to make bread, so it has a lower gluten content, higher amounts of amino acids as well…

The Dukan regimen invades Ireland just as speculation builds that Kate Middleton and her mum are following it to lose weight for the royal wedding. Carole Middleton, mother of the princess-to-be, has claimed to be a Dukan fan, telling the British press it helped her lose four pounds in four days. In Ireland, Dukan has been gaining…

Diet helps combat acne

Too many teens and adults with acne have been misled when it comes to acne and their diet. Many dermatologists and doctors still advise their patients that diet has nothing to do with acne. They usually prescribe drugs that can have harmful long term effects, rather than educate patients about lifestyle and diet choices which naturally treat acne.

While it is true that some people have a tendency toward acne prone skin, diet also plays a much larger role than you might be led to believe. In fact, many people have completely cleared their…

The Difference Between Gluten-Free and Wheat-Free Foods

Gluten-free has recently become a big marketing trend – some call it a fad, while those with gluten intolerance are thankful for the widespread options. Many grocery stores and restaurants now have bold gluten-free labels on their food, menus, and store aisles. The phrase wheat-free is also popular, but is not to be confused with gluten-free. Don’t know the difference? Here’s a breakdown:

“Wheat-free” literally means a product contains no wheat (white or whole wheat flour). Foods that often contain wheat are: breads, cookies, pizza, pasta, tortillas, fried food – pretty…

Top 10 Garlic Cooking Tips

Top 10 Garlic Cooking Tips

1.

When purchasing garlic look for bulbs that have plump, firm cloves with the papery outer sheath intact. Avoid garlic that is soft, spongy or shrivelled

2.

Keep the bulbs in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate. Garlic needs air circulation so don’t store in a plastic bag, keep it on your shelves or window sill (out of the sun)

3.

To separate the cloves from the bulb, place the bulb on a solid surface, place both hands on top and apply pressure. You will hear the crack as they start to separate.
